What is Party in the City?

Party in the City marks the opening of festival season in Bath, with a night of free live entertainment involving more than 2,000 performers and an audience in the tens of thousands. Historic buildings, churches, galleries, museums, music venues, pubs, clubs and shops throughout the city all get involved.

Why should I perform at Party in the City?

It is a unique opportunity for your band, choir, orchestra, group or ensemble to reach new audiences. More than 50 venues open their doors and the event features up to 250 performances. Acts are promoted through the printed programme, email, social media and the festival app.

When will I know that I have been selected to perform?

Applications are reviewed and programming begins in January. If selected, the team will contact you to confirm your venue and arrangements and connect you with the venue and other performers. The selection process is expected to be completed by 1st March.

Will there be a PA and a backline for bands?

Technical support depends on the venue and your needs. The team will do its best to ensure a PA is available, but in most cases you will need to bring your own backline or arrange to share with other performers.

Do we have to bring our own drum kit?

At venues that can accommodate full rock bands, etiquette suggests that a drum kit, minus breakables, will be provided by the headline act. Performers are encouraged to discuss and agree arrangements with each other.

Will there be a technician or event manager?

Some venues have in-house equipment and crew, but many only host live music on Party in the City night. The more self-sufficient you can be, the easier it is to find an ideal venue and performance slot.

Will I be paid?

Party in the City is run by a charity and participating venues provide free access to audiences. Performers are not paid a performance fee. Venues are encouraged to support artists with technical support and hospitality wherever possible.
